Majulah Singapura

願你在變幻的世界中,繼續穩健前行;

Burung merpati terbang ke seberang,

Singgah sebentar di kota berjaya.

Singapura maju terus gemilang,

Malaysia setia melangkah bersama.

Majulah Singapura

Demi Malaysia

🇸🇬 Looking Across the Strait — Happy 60th National Day, Singapore

From Johor Bahru, just across the Straits of Johor, I see you—Singapore.

I can recite every single station on the East-West Line, North-South Line, Downtown Line, and Circle Line, and I've been to them all.

From Woodlands, turning around, I see the skyline of my homeland—Malaysia.

The distance isn’t far.

But the connection feels even closer.

I’m Malaysian, but a part of my life has quietly taken root across the strait.

Singapore has long cast its presence in the backdrop of my everyday life.

My family and friends are in places like Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Hougang, Tampines, etc.

During school holidays, I’d visit them—

we’d go to the pasar, eat chicken rice, and walk the humid, familiar streets.

These places aren’t just dots on a map; they’re emotional bookmarks in my memory.

At Chinatown, I bought my first souvenir—just for myself.

At the old site of Nanyang University, I felt the resilience of Chinese education, and the grief of its forced closure.

In the corridors of the National University of Singapore, I walked among the students and wondered:

“If I ever graduate from here one day, what would I study? What path would I choose?”

I’ve chased sunsets at Sentosa, visited Universal Studios countless times,

hugged through both farewells and reunions at Changi Airport.

Even the Science Centre in Jurong, the dazzling lights at Gardens by the Bay,

and the buzzing mornings and quiet nights of the CBD area including Marina Bay—

they’ve all become cherished fragments in my memory.

I can sing Majulah Singapura, too.

I grew up watching Mediacorp dramas, and listening to YES 933.

“Bai bei! Qian bei!”—those catchy shouts were the soundtrack of our childhood weekends.

Bingfen Wanqian Zai Sheng Song, Star Awards, comedy shows—we watched them all, we laughed just as hard.

As someone born after 2000, I didn’t live through your founding years,

but I feel incredibly lucky to grow up in this era of peace and constant progress—

to witness how you’ve transformed from a small island to a confident voice on the world stage.

Singapore’s forward-thinking leadership, its strides in finance and tech,

its global tourism image, and the discipline of its people—

all these taught me that the greatness of a country isn’t measured by its size,

but by the heart of its people.

My generation of Malaysians is just as young, just as full of dreams,

just as determined to grow—and between our nations lies not just shared history,

but a shared future.

The Johor–Singapore Causeway is one of the busiest land crossings in the world,

but it connects more than traffic—it carries our stories, our lives.

I look forward to the upcoming RTS Link, to the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone.

I truly believe our partnership isn’t just about mutual growth,

but about bringing new hope and possibilities to ASEAN, and to the world.

Today, as you mark 60 years,

I’m not just offering well-wishes from across the strait—

I’m proud of you, from the heart.

Like being proud of a dear friend—

You walk steady, you walk fast, and I’m happy just watching you succeed.

Happy birthday, Singapore.

May you continue to move forward with confidence, even in an uncertain world.

And may we—this generation of Malaysian and Singaporean youth—walk together

into a brighter future, side by side.

Some places may not be your homeland,

but they still become part of your life.

To me, Singapore is one of them.

Let me end with a simple pantun:

Burung merpati terbang ke seberang,

Singgah sebentar di kota berjaya.

Singapura maju terus gemilang,

Malaysia setia melangkah bersama.

Majulah Singapura.

Demi Malaysia.
